New Album Release on Classical Archives: The Cologne Radio Choir and Soloists Perform Mozart Masses

It seems that every day brings news of some terrible, unsettling event in the world – everything from senseless bombings in Ukraine to crime sprees in our cities to blizzards and floods that cripple cities and take lives.

How can we make sense of it all, find the energy to help others, and continue to see the good in the world?

We just found a solution that worked for us today, and perhaps it can work for you too. We listened to a new Naxos recording of two Mozart masses: the “Great” Mass K. 427 and the “Spaurmass” Missa Brevis K. 258.  The performances are excellent, from the Cologne Chamber Orchestra and Radio Choir, conducted by Christoph Poppen. The fine soloists are Katherine Konradi, Sarah Romberger, Martin Mitterrutzner and Mikhail Timoshenko.

But beyond the excellence of these performances, in them we can hear the voice of Mozart telling us that something really is good in the world. It’s that same voice of his we hear in his Requiem, in his chamber music, in his concertos and symphonies and operas.

So why not enrich our day with something sublime? And “sublime” is the right word to describe these deeply reassuring new Mozart recordings from Naxos.
